Z4 Go Green....!!

BMW S1000RR

Sketches

Street Version

K46 prototype

Originally codenamed the K46, BMW released photos to the German press of what is now called the S1000RR. Dates for when the bike will be hitting dealer floors is still unknown, though homologation rules give BMW until December. BMW has also said the road version is to have traction control. We think it looks fantastic with subtle touches of German flourish. That said, we're curious to see how BMW incorporates its trademark offset headlights. No word on heated grips either. (UPDATE: a transcript from BMW's General Director has been released, stating that only 1000 S1000RR's will be built by the end of next year.)

Motociclismo commissioned this illustration based on insider info and what we already know about BMW's forthcoming 1000cc superbike. It will have a 1:1 power to kg ratio; it will be a 1000cc inline-four cylinder; its engine is compact enough to fit inside an R6 fairing; and it will use chain drive and upside-down forks. BMW intends to take on the Japanese on their home turf with the K46, something they've never before done. In order to drive that point home, the German company intends to enter this machine in SBK for the 2009 season.
